Sorry folks. For those of you who had planned on attending we had to cancel it due to scheduling problems. We will have some more midnight tournaments in the New Year. If you want more tournament play try the Apocalypse Doubles Tournament on 27 Dec or the Cities of Death Tournament in January.

Paint or Die Army is Done!

It’s been a busy November and I haven’t been diligent about posting - my apologies for that. Anyway, my Eldar 1500 point army is finally done. If you haven’t checked it out on the GW Canada Website yet, please do. I am quite pleased with it. I would like to do more with the Falcons and Wave Serpents but that will have to wait.

Wow! While most of the world boosted their prices, to meet the cost of rising raw material Canada’s remained the same or, in quite a few cases, was lowered to bring them in line with the Global Pricing Strategy. In English that means that those cool low prices in the US are no longer that attractive. For example, our Battleforces and Battalion Boxes went from $130 to $105; most of the plastic regiment/squad boxes went from $45 to $40; many tanks dropped as well. Come in and check us out!

The Orks are on the move! Two massive Ork forces are making their way from the East and West Coasts towards the centre of Canada. The two warbosses will taking on all-comers on their way and will then slug it out to see who is the bestest warboss ever. The Ork horde will swing by Surrey on Saturday October 11th. Come to fight with them or against them. 4000 points of Orks will be showing up so we have started a sign up list for those wishing to oppose them. The first 10 people to sign up will be able to bring in 400 points to join up against the Orks. The remainder will be able to play on the Ork side. Don’t delay sign up now to ensure you have a place!!

Be one of the 10 customers to come in beforeThursday September 4th and pre-pay your Warhammer 40,000 starter set and the GW Staff will assemble and prime one of the two forces for you. Then you can sit down Saturday September 6th and spend 3 hours painting your force before joining in the ‘uge mega battle that afternoon starting at 2:00 pm!

Summer is almost done, which for you Vancouverites means you won’t have to endure the ugly weather anymore because winter should be moving into Spring anytime soon. Junuary and Julyber were terrible for suntanning but awesome for building armies! (more…)

Alrighty Sports fans, We’ve got a pretty special event for the release of 5th edition 40,000!

Since, as most of you know, we are located in a mall, Richmond store cannot run the midnight madness event published in White Dwarf #26 (Don’t worry, it’ll be out soon…). Due to this rather unseemly issue, we (and by we I mean me!) have come up with a solution!!!

A Pre-Release Apocalypse game and a 2v2 Doubles Tournament!!!

On June 11th we will be hosting a MASSIVE Apocalypse battle starting at noon and running straight through untill 8pm!

Space will be limited (10 slots only), so sign up fast!

and on the 12th, to celebrate the release of the new system, we will be hosting a 2v2 Doubles tournament. It’s do or die, with only 1(yep, ONE!) game beiong played per opponent, 4 rounds total. Again space will be limited (10 teams only, 20 people total.) so get in and sign up!

Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and the best painted army!

It’s been a while since I have posted anything on these hallowed pages but I feel the need to expound on what is going on in the hobby this summer.

New 40K rules! It’s been whispered about on-line for a few months and there are some dubious “copies” of the rule sets going around. Don’t believe everything you hear (especially from the nay-sayers). The new rules will be awesome! Line of sight will dictate whether you can shoot at something (no more arguing about “area terrain”); one vehicle damage table, glancing hits won’t destroy a vehicle anymore and so on. The new rulebooks will be out in July (we are taking pre-orders now - if you want to make sure you have a copy to play with when it comes out).

Summer Camps! Yes they are back and better. You get more stuff this year and still save about $30-40 (and for 40K players you will get the new rulebook). Camps still run 3 weeks (morning or afternoon) and cost $400. See in-store for dates and availability.

Golden Daemon Preliminaries. This is an in-store painting competition for the serious painter who wants a chance to compete at the national level against those awesome painters featured in White Dwarf. The winner of the store contest will have their model brought to Toronto for the Golden Daemons, free of charge, to enter the competition. The categories open for this are the Single Figure category from 40K, Fantasy, and Lord of the Rings. Judging is at the Surrey Hobby Centre May 31st at 3:00 pm. Entries must be received by Noon.

New Painting System. GW is releasing a Spray gun (much like an airbrush) which can be used with Citadel Foundation paint and Citadel Washes. The idea is that you prime the model as normal, spray your base coat with the Spray Gun, apply Foundation paints for any parts different from the basecoat, coat the figure with the appropriate Washes to make the shadows and paint the highlights with the regular range of Citadel colours. It will make painting large projects (Space Marine Companies, tanks, Cities of Death buildings, etc) so much faster and give a better result.

Spend this summer building all those cool models you got over the winter; get that cool army you’ve always wanted and get ready for some great gaming action in the Fall and over Winter!

Spot the Challenge! In Richmond AND In Surrey

Here’s a tricky little challenge for ya!

Every week (or possibly several times a week) one of the staff members from either the Surrey or the Richmond store will post a challenge on this website. If you come into the store where the challenge was issued, identify the challenge and who wrote it, and complete the challenge you’ll get marked down on your Challenge Sheet (similar to the Iron Halo scoring sheets).

The person who completes the most challenges between now and the end of July will win a prize–and yes we’ll be combining the challenges you’ve completed at Richmond with those you have done at Surrey.

So I’ll make the first challenge easy (and this one can be used at either store). Come in and let us know you’ve spotted this challenge to get your challenge sheet.
